Cody began playing Violin in 1994 as he entered the 6th grade in middle school. He then continued his classical training for the next six years, and although he enjoyed playing in school as an elective, he never really had a passion for it.
As he was concluding his senior year of high school, his instructor mentioned playing after graduation, to which Cody responded, “I’ll never touch it again.” And that was a true statement… until Christmas day two years later!
Up until that point Cody had never own a violin of his own, and unbeknownst to him, that unexpected Christmas gift would opened up a new chapter in his musical journey and change his life forever.
The following spring, Cody was asked to play some music for a revolutionary reenactment that his parents were participating. In preparation and to match the time period, he began learning old-time American and Celtic fiddle tunes. It was then that he found himself saying, “Wow, I actually enjoy playing this instrument now!”
“There was a connection with my heritage. Something inside of me that resonated with this music. I fell in love with the history that it shared in it’s lyrics and with the history that it has made as it was passed down from generation to generation, touching countless people’s lives along the way. When I listen to it and think about all the people who have played it, all the people who have been moved by it for hundreds of years, I am in awe.”
